2x Best Actress Award-winner, "Benny" achieved major success in her native Portugal, and was a national TV star by the time she was 18. Born into a close-knit family of travelers; a civil engineer father, and mother who elected to stay home and raise her 3 children in their native Porto, Benedita decided she was going to be an actor at age 8 and her parents enrolled her at the Balleteatro Centro de Formacao. As a pre-teen, she performed at Porto's National Theatre and landed a few minor television roles. In high school, she was scouted by a modeling agency and worked in runway, catalog and editorial, saving a large part of her earnings for her future. While finishing her high school exams, Benedita landed her first major TV role: a lead in Portugal's first teen-targeted series on TVI, the country's major network. The show was an immediate hit and catapulted Benedita to literal 'instant stardom'. Over the next five years, her success in her home country continued to grow, with an onslaught of offers to star in TV series. She also shot a major commercial campaign with Benecio del Toro (with the quirky concept of "Benny and Benny"). Despite Benedita's success, she felt the need for more growth as an actor, so decided to train in American English, her unaccented, fluently and articulately spoken 2nd language. Finishing the 2-year Conservatory program at the Lee Strasberg Institute;, she returned to Portugal, having accepted an offer for lead in a new series. A smart decision, as her portrayal of a young woman masquerading as a man in "Ele é Ela", garnered her first trophy; Best Actress in a Comedy Series, at the 2010 Portugal TV Awards. Returning to New York City with her new prize, Benedita received an offer to star in a U.S./Portugal co-production. In 2011, she won a second Best Actress in Television award (this time for work in a Drama series) and decided to learn Spanish (her 3rd language) and then a 4th (Brazilian Portuguese). In 2016, she was nominated for Portugal's "Emmy" equivalent; again for Best Actress. In late 2017, after being requested to read for French casting director Mathilde Snodgrass, for a role in a French film with an international ensemble cast, she decided to master her (already conversational) French. Her 1000+ episodes as in series lead in television, extensive travels to more than a dozen countries, acting training in 3 countries, years of living in New York City and 5 fluently spoken languages, give Benedita unique and rare qualifications in the English language market.
